Polly Gibbons - with Ross Stanley - “All For You, Body & Soul”
Piano Smithfield, Long Lane, Barbican, London
Following her successful concert in the Jazz Divas series at The Pheasantry and now making her debut for this opening concert of our Piano SmithfieldAutumn 2022 Jazz series, it’s a warm welcome to the great soulful singer Polly Gibbons, accompanied by the established piano great Ross Stanley.
The song “Body And Soul” could have been written with Polly Gibbonsin mind. Polly is one of our most distinctive voices, with an expressive, passionate style, creating tender feelings that touch international audiences.
For this Piano Smithfield concert Polly gives voice not only to the music of great soulful musicians, including Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, Ray Charles and Nina Simone among others, but also showcases her creativity as an original song writer.
Polly is a major presence on the UK Jazz scene, having been nominated twice as "Best Jazz Vocalist" by JAZZ FM and the BBC. She embraces the inspiring expansiveness of American Jazz, Blues, Soul and R&B.
Her repertoire and the style with which she performs it, have led her to appear at the Royal Albert Hall, opening with George Benson and Gladys Knight and at the legendary Birdland Jazz Club and Ronnie Scott’s. Her music and her voice have a broad appeal to music lovers - and her ongoing touring over the last few years in the USA has garnered her many new fans.
We could think of no better artist than Polly Gibbons to launch our Autumn Jazz series and with the remarkable Ross Stanley, a much in demand pianist and organ accompanist to music greats, performing in big bands and large groups as well as more intimate duo performances , makes this a night not to be missed!'
