With the conclusion of Sara Dowling’s further appearance in the JBGB Events 2021 Jazz Divas series; her trio’s acclaimed performance in the same year to The Crazy Coqs in the EFG London Jazz Festival, and a sensational and much requested return by the UK’s Best Jazz Singer, it’s a special welcome to Piano Smithfield for Sara Dowling’s unique musicality
Sara is now recognised as one of the U.K's leading jazz vocalists and awarded “Best Vocalist” in the 2019 British Jazz Awards. She has a compelling stage presence coupled with a distinctive voice that marks her out as a unique musical force
She is a regular performer at Ronnie Scotts and enjoyed a sold out concert in our 2019 Jazz Divas Series at The Pheasantry singing the music of Judy Garland.
She is recognised for her interpretations of classic ballads, leaving audiences spell bound, as well as the energy and vigour with which she tackles the up tempo standards from the American Song Book.
Her distinctive voice owes much to her Irish father and Palestinian mother, surrounded by the records of her father's jazz collection and the chant like voices of Arabic singers. Sara's album From Shadows Into Light received a five star review from Jazz Journal.
She arrives at Piano Smithfield with her outstanding trio of the in demand and much revered Ross Stanley– piano, Dario Di Lecce – double bass and regular British Jazz Awards Best Drummer Steve Brown.
