At Pizza Express Jazz Club, Dean Street, Soho, London
Following a sensational sold-out concert in Autumn 2022 at Ronnie Scott’s we had to invite Tom Smith- a London based 25-year old, saxophonist, bass clarinet, composer and band leader, to bring his phenomenal big band to Pizza Express Jazz Club for a Sunday Lunchtime concert for our discerning Dean Street audiences
Tom Smith was twice finalist of the BBC Young Jazz Musician of the Year programme in 2014 and 2016, and in 2018 won the Peter Whittingham Development Award from Help Musicians UK. He released his debut album ‘Gecko’ in 2020.
Since finishing his degree at the Royal Academy of Music, Tom has performed and toured around the world and has brought his music to prestigious festivals and venues including the BBC Proms, Love Supreme Festival, Jazzinec Festival(Czech Republic), and Generations Festival (Switzerland).
He has recently appeared with the Chris Ingham REBOP band playing the Cannonball Adderley inspired role in the “Miles in the 50’s” concerts.
Tom brings to this concert his original Big Band compositions and arrangements and whilst drawing on traditional big band voicing, he adds his distinctive and contemporary musical flavours that will make for an enjoyable and unique audience experience.
Here’s the Tom Smith Big Band, making a great sound, rehearsing in “lock down“ conditions.
