Down For The Count
– All Stars Swing Band

At Boisdale of Canary Wharf, 1 Cabot Square, London E14 4QT

For the second concert in the new association between Boisdale and JBGB Events, we build on our tradition of large ensembles and continue our 2025 series with Down For The Count All Stars, one of the UK’s most highly rated Swing Orchestras, fresh from another successful U.K. tour including sold out concerts at London’s Cadogan Hall.

The Down For The Count All Stars "mini big band" make their long awaited return to Boisdale Canary Wharf to play  swing and jazz favourites from the likes of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald and many more.

Often found at jazz clubs including Ronnie Scott's and Pizza Express Soho and vintage festivals across the U.K., they play an up tempo selection designed to put a smile of the faces of their audiences and leave them demanding more and go on their way with a spring in their step.

Down for the Count was founded in 2005 by pianist, musical director and conductor Mike Paul-Smith when he and a group of school friends from Aylesbury Music Centre in Buckinghamshire decided to put their love of jazz and swing music to use by performing for local events and parties.

For the first few years of its existence, Down for the Count primarily performed for weddings and private events - then, in 2012, Mike happened across a swing dance event in London.

He quickly caught the swing dance bug, and not long after that Down for the Count started performing for Lindy hop and vintage dance events in the capital.

The following year, Down for the Count headlined a vintage festival for the first time, and soon after that began performing at London jazz clubs, including the Ronnie Scotts and Pizza Express Jazz Clubs.

In 2019 Down for the Count stated touring regional UK theatres, and also formed a 28-piece Orchestra - a big band with strings, styled on the Capitol Studios orchestras of the 1950s.

Constantly in demand, Down for the Count is now recognised as one of the busiest and hardest swinging bands in the UK - performing at over 100 public and private events every year.

Here’s the Down For The Count showreel to get you in the mood for a night of great entertainment.
