The Gareth Lockrane Big Band - Three 2025 Sunday lunchtime concerts February 2025
At Pizza Express Jazz Club, Dean Street, Soho, London
Starting from a single post pandemic Sunday lunchtime concert with the Gareth Lockrane Big Band in 2021, we built a three time per year residency for them across the last three years with awesome fresh writing, an album launch and outstanding audience enthusiasm and support
So it is no surprise, that across 2025, we continue responding to our customers demands, with this further series of three spring, summer and autumn, residency concerts at Pizza Express Jazz Club, by this sensational 19-piece British Big Band, led by the original writing and arranging of the brilliant jazz flautist Gareth Lockrane,
Mention Big Band Jazz and memories flood with the sound of our own Tubby Hayes Big Band and the great American sounds of Basie, Ellington, Dorsey, Evans, Jones & Marsalis. Add to that list the name Lockrane. It is one of the world’s most outstanding bands & comes from this side of the pond.
The audience to the last concert were enthusiastic. “Just wonderful” “Totally original” “…compelling sounds” “ What an amazing British band of talent”
The band will play new material from their eagerly expected, and already completed, new album to be issued in 2025, as well as music from their first album, “Fistfight At The Barndance”, rated a top five jazz album of the year in the British Jazz Awards, and short listed as Best jazz album in the Parliamentary Jazz Awards.
“Probably the best Jazz Big Band since Thad Jones & Mel Lewis” – The Hoste of Jazz
Gareth’s Band features a combination of established British jazz greats with Academy trained younger musicians, in multi layered arrangements scored for 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, 5 reeds, guitar, piano, bass, percussion and drums in addition to Gareth on the entire flute family.
Here’s’ the band in brilliant form in a previous Pizza Express Jazz Club performance.
These are “must get to” concerts for all music lovers for whom the sound of the big band ticks all the boxes.
“...Lockrane is the next best thing and the most exciting and inventive instrumentalist in the country.” – London Evening Standard
