The Magical Music of Stephen Sondheim
- With Joanna Eden

Piano Smithfield, Long Lane, Barbican, London

Giving voice to the magical music of the greatest writer and composer of the theatre in the 20th century, Stephen Sondheim, it’s a most welcome return to Piano Smithfield of the delightful voice and sensitive interpreter, the vocalist & pianist Joanna Eden, with her trio

Acclaimed singer/pianist Joanna Eden, already established as a leading interpreter of the music of Joni Mitchell and Ella Fitzgerald and performing with Jazz At The Movies, owns up to her passion for musical theatre and treads expertly, the line between jazz cool and heart-filled storytelling.

Joanna Eden brings to this concert her love of the music of ‘The Godfather of Modern Musical Theatre’ Stephen Sondheim, covering work from West Side Story to Into the Woods, via ‘Send In The Clowns’ from a Little Night Music and  explores the jazzy side of Sondheim without losing the theatrical truth.

Launched last year at the EFG London Jazz Festival, to much acclaim, this show at Piano Smithfield, is a must for those who have a passion for jazz and musical theatre.

Joanna is joined by the world class trio, no strangers to Piano Smithfield supporters, of George Double  - drums, (here with Jazz At The Movies),  Andrés Lafone, (here with Joanna for her music of Joni Mitchell show)) on bass and multi-instrumentalist Gerry Hunt

Here’s a beautiful example of what this concert has in store for our Piano Smithfield audience with Joanna singing “Send In The Clowns”
