Barnes – Spillett – Brown – Tracey
Thursday May 29th, 2025. Music @ 1pm. Doors @ Noon
Four giants of UK jazz come together, as a unique partnership quartet,
to create a concert of distinctive colours, sounds and flavours across long-standing favourite songs and tunes.
Alan Barnes - clarinet, alto and baritone saxophones, is our most highly awarded reeds man, having won legions of trophies in a long standing career, as a solo performer, his duo concerts with pianist David Newton, in the “Great JazzTunes” sextet with Mark Nightingale’s arrangements , as composer and performer for his octet with his Sherlock Holmes Suite and Copperfield Suites, and as a sideman in the Simon Spillett Big Band.
Simon Spillett - tenor saxophone, is a well recognised, long-time performer, in clubs and festivals across the country. He is a multi award winning, straight ahead, swinging saxophonist, not only playing with his quartet, but also as leader and writer - arranger re creating in his own imaginative style, the wonderful music of the late Tubby Hayes Big Band. His charismatic presence coupled with great musicianship makes Simon a top-class entertainer.
Jeremy Brown - double bass, is a regular performer at JBGB Events concerts, not only with top singers including Claire Martin, where his “singing bass” adds delicacy, depth and harmony, but also with hard driving jazz groups, where Jeremy’s, feel and imagination, adds a soulful big body sound
Clark Tracey- has been an in-demand jazz drummer for many years and continues to perform with several groups across the U.K. and Overseas. 2 times winner of the British Jazz Awards Best Drummer, his sympathetic supporting accompaniment style will be heard to perfection in this concert. He continues to play the highly rated “Under Milk Wood Suite”, created and performed by his later father, the top pianist Stan Tracey.
